Pt is working ....

I apologize for no updates this week. I've been swamped at work with preparations for summer camp that starts on Monday. Working & physical therapy appointments is about all I've done this week!

No big changes this week. I've been able to wear a shoe all day at work - some days sandals and some days my good tennis shoes. One day this week I walked three miles by noon and I was starting to feel it, but overall there is no pain (big praise!). My skin is a little bit better, but I still feel like there is a lot of redness and it looks overall rough at the top of the foot. If I recall the last time this happened, it suddenly improved a lot around week #14 and I'm at week #9, so maybe it will just get better naturally with time.

My Chicago orthopod & I have e-mailed a little this week. Dr. P thinks that I am doing well and told me about a comfy sandal with Velcro that would help since swelling is still happening. She bought a pair in red for herself! I may go to Chicago in July/Aug. & stop to see her.

The good news at pt today was that it is working and helping! We did ROM measurements today and it had improved 5 degrees in each measurement area - this is a lot for me in two weeks. My therapist also feels that there is more flexibility in the toes & they are not as stiff. There was a pt intern from Mizzou at therapy today, so I had to tell him my medical case. I would guess that he wished he hadn't ask to hear the details of the case!

My gait is fairly decent when I am walking slow, but when the pace picks up it is noticeably weak (more time/practice needed here). The operative foot is still 1 1/2" larger than the other foot, but it is 1/2" less than it was two weeks ago. I will take new pictures this weekend and will post on the blog.

I'm so thankful for each day that I'm able to wear matching shoes, drive to work on my own, and for the continued little progress that is happening each week. When I picked up my car at the dealership, there was another customer there with an amputated foot also buying a car. I thought it was ironic, considering it could have been me, but how grateful I am that it is not. God is good. Keep praying that what I have will remain a permanent fix and we'll be "good to go" forever!

Wishing you a relaxing summer weekend ahead ....

Jenny, So glad to hear the good news keep it coming. How ironic about the encounter at the car dealership almost spooky. Maybe it is the almightys way of speaking to you who knows. Take care and keep up the good work. Love, Ted,Carol,Teddy

Hey, girl...I apologize for silence on MY end, as well...stomach flu has run through the whole family this week, starting w/ Isaac when you and I were saying "bye" and ogling over your new drive in the Red Robin parking lot last Saturday. Isaac first...then Mike...then me (a little)...then Elijah (badly)...and still Elijah. He's (hopefully) over the worst of it now, but still limping along...pardon the pun. I'm wiped out physically & emotionally from all of the caretaking...and just want to check out and, like, get a pedicure. Wanna go? Kidding...like I have the TIME! I have continued to pray for you this week & was so happy to have the "girl time" last week (egads, it's hard to imagine it's already been almost 7 days)...wish the outings happened more often...like weekly. Wouldn't THAT be grand? L Jo

Jenny, The foot looks very good. The shoes are very cute, you cannot even see the incisions hardly with them on. Have a good one and take it as easy as you can. Love, Ted,Carol,Teddy
